WalnutHill

Walnut Hill Shopping Center was constructed in 1967. The old photograph was taken in 1972 by Ron Lichterman during the grand opening of his new store, Junior Miss, which replaced a sporting goods store at this location. Junior Miss sold clothing for young women and eventually closed in 1977. The Dairy Queen was another popular spot in this shopping center back then. When I was kid, in the 1980s, there was a wall paper store where Junior Miss was. Today, the MVA Express is a popular destination.

Derek 9/15/11 I remember there being a Stride Rite shoe store up there near the Junior Miss and Dairy Queen, too. It was always a fake-out. Thought my mom was taking us for ice-cream but nope!...shoe shopping.
Janet 7/26/12 There was a Drug Fair store which was located behind the building seen here.

dave 1/26/14 I remember the restaurant on the lowest level was called "The Diadem" at one point. I think there was a car garage there and a 7-eleven. I do remember Pizza Oven too. It was towards the rear of the mall, near the entrance to the service road behind it. I think there was a wine shop as well by the Pizza Oven at one point. I also remember a hairdresser with run by a man from England near the center of the mall I think. It may have been behind the Marie's clothes closet building.
Eddie 9/14/14 The club down on the lower level was called The Chesapeake or the Chesapeake Seafood House or something like that. Lots of fun for a few years. Probably early to mid '80s.

Becky Word Lau 9/29/15 I remember the Pizza Oven. You could eat there or take the pizza home on the baking sheets they provided and bake them at home. Then you just took the baking sheet back the next time. I also remember the jewelry store. I had my ears pierced there too. Loved going to the places in the Walnut Hill Shopping center in the 70s and 80s.
