About me

My name is Shaun Curtis and I've lived in Gaithersburg for most of my life. I enjoy photography, history, and exploring local historic sites.

I have fond childhood memories of hiking through the woods that is now the Kentlands, eating at DeDe's Diner on Darnestown Road, and going to summer concerts on the lawn at the Washingtonian Complex (RIO). In the 1980s, Gaithersburg and the surrounding area seemed to still have that small town feel. I can only imagine what it was like 100+ years ago.

In 2008, I created this website dedicated to Gaithersburg's history and published my first book on the subject in 2010. In 2020, I published a second volume, which expands the areas of interest to include places around Gaithersburg.

I hope you enjoy my work.
