MapleSpring

Maple Spring Farm was located at the corner of Darnestown and Dufief Mill Roads. Built by Alexander Garrett in 1879, the house is an example of typical vernacular architecture constructed in Montgomery County during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The structure was significantly altered during the construction of an attached brick medical center. The outbuildings include a large dairy barn, a hay barn and two garages. The dairy barn was used as a veterinary clinic for years.

My family lived in this beautiful home 3/12/10 My family (The Denhams), lived on this farm in the 70's and early eighties. My dad is the vet that started the clinic in the old dairy barn, which I couldn't believe was still a vet clinic when I visited a couple of years ago. I still think about the old place every once in a while.
Laura Garrett Hall 1/5/12 This home was in our family for 5 generations, of which my family was the last to grow up there, leaving in 1973. It's hard to go back because everything has changed so dramatically in Rockville. I prefer to remember the "good old days" when there were green rolling hills and streams to play in, lovely old maple trees, and the only traffic jams were a few cars being held up on Dufief Mill as we drove our cows across the road for milking. Maple Spring will always be home to me.
Sharon Garrett Debnam 1/8/12 What a wonderful photo of our home. Brings back many memories and it will always be home. Can you imaging driving heifers down the middle of Rt. 28 from the pastures on Muddy Branch Road up to the the "other farm", baseball games in the front yard, and a wedding reception there as well. Times have changed-not always for the best.
Brent Denham 12/5/12 I haven't been in Rockville in about 5 years. Every time I go back I'm afraid the old dairy barn will have been torn down, especially now since the veterinary clinic has moved out. The last time I was there the dairy barn was up for sale. I hope it still remains. I have alot of childhood memories there and it will really be sad if it has been torn down for development.
