The area along Darnestown Road between Travilah and Muddy Branch Roads was once a small rural community known as Hunting Hill. The village included a blacksmith shop, two general stores, and a school house. Hunting Hill Methodist Episcopal Church was built here in 1902 and included around 50 members, among them the Schwartzbeck, Crown and Ward families. In 1965 Hunting Hill and McDonald Chapel Church merged and a few years later, the two merged with the black congregation of Pleasant View Church.

Debbie Zentz 5/20/16 When I was a little girl my family attended Hunting Hill Church. My Grandmother Dorothy Ricketts worked for the church and my mother Shirley Ricketts-Zentz conducted Sunday School there. The Ricketts Family owned a small farm on Shady Grove Road. I am writing a book about the area and my family. This picture will be in the book.
Rodney Zentz 5/23/16 Yes...I fondly remember going to this church with my Grandmother Dorothy Ricketts and my Mother Shirley Ricketts, my Sister Debbie Zentz and extended family members. I loved getting ready at my Grandparent's home on Shady Grove Rd.on Sunday morning. We would have an early breakfast and I would shine my shoes and get dressed up...my Grandfather would drive us there. The congregation was full of neighbors and friends whom I still fondly recall. There would be special holiday services...I especially liked the Christmas one...and there would be bake sales and dinners. I will cherish those memories always.
Danny Ricketts 12/1/16 I remember this church fondly. I was raised in this church. My mother (Dorothy Ricketts) was the secretary of the church. I attended Sunday school & church for 13 years without missing a Sunday, my mother made sure of that. Mrs Davis would do the role call and they would give you a gold pin if you did not miss a Sunday for a year. I have 13 pins. They all connect together. My wife and I were married in this church. It was sad to see it go. I fondly remember the Christmas services. We would all have to get up at the alter and read a Christmas poem. My older brother, Rudy, would always pull off some antics to make everyone laugh. I remember to Saturday night teen dances in the hall. They were a lot of fun. I will always cherish those bygone days.
