HolidayMotel

The Holiday Motel is another interesting building that has vanished. Build circa 1945, it was originally called the All States Motel, and was one of the first buildings motorists would see as they entered Gaithersburg along Route 355. In the 1960s, the Gaithersburg Gazette Newspaper was published at the Holiday Motel and in 1970, the DC metro area's first cable television franchise was operated from the motel. I remember, as a child in the early 1990s, driving by this building with my parents and thinking that it looked haunted. Now in its place is an EZ Storage facility and a Hyatt Suites.

Nancy Zanner Correll 7/29/09 For a time, the Holiday Motel was the site of a cable TV station--the source of the transmitter tower to the left of the house. There was also a short row of motel rooms (maybe four rooms) to the left of the house, which were the site of some seedy goings-on that, when made public, ensnared a number of prominent local business and political figures. In front of that was a small one-story building where the Gaithersburg Gazette used to have its offices. There was also a towel-selling business in there for a while.
Janet Miller Holt 9/11/09 My Grandmother, Eleanor Miller Mullineaux ran the Motel for a while..I remember visiting as a child
Shawn Brooks Lantz 11/29/09 As a child, I too, thought this place looked haunted...maybe because of the Bates Motel looking sign.
Debbie Melvin 4/9/11 LOL, I too thought it was scary, but it's even sadder to see it as a self storage unit.
Danny Brodt 10/8/11 Mr Blum was the owner at one time in the 50's and 60's and also originated the Gaithersburg Gazette from this location.
Amanda 7/26/12 I totally remember that Hotel from my childhood and all its wonderful creepiness. Kind of sad its gone now.
Keith Vail 9/29/15 The All States Motel was actually at the southwest corner of Shady Grove Rd.(when it was 2-lane) and 355.
Jeryll Dorsey 3/29/17 I agree with Keith Vail, there was also a later motel on that spot (it looked like the kind in the movies where you pay at the office and enter your room from the parking lot. All States Inn (what we called it) was on the corner of Shady Grove and Rt 355 (near the current Comfort Inn). Maybe the business moved after the pic was taken.
Danny Brodt 7/11/17 Yes Keith and Jeryll are correct. The Original All States Motel and resturaunt was on the SW corner of 355 and Shady Grove Rd. Barbara Richardson was a waitress there and my parents spent their honeymoon there in the 1940's
Dave Hennessey 6/19/19 The All States Inn was on the SW corner - it had a restaurant and a number of cabins. The Holiday Motel was on the NE side, near the corner.
