This old photo of Frederick and Brookes Avenues was snapped by E. Russell Gloyd on February 19, 1956. During this time, Bill Reber operated a store and soda fountain in the original Ward Store building. Also pictured here is Ward's Service Station and the Safeway, which moved a half mile north on 355 not long after the old photograph was taken.

Carol Dove Kline | 10/24/15 | I love these pictures you share, Davy. I had forgotten the Esso station on that corner but do remember Reber's and Safeway. My parents alway shopped there until one was built at Quince Orchard & Rt 28. Billy Reber was our insurance man and came round once a month to pick up the payment and check on us. He felt like part of the family. My Dad was born in Washington Grove in 1922. My Mom's home is about 1 mile from where I live now in Baker, WV, God's country. |
