The brick fire station for the Gaithersburg-Washington Grove Fire Department was built at 13 East Diamond in 1930 to replace a two-stall metal building constructed nearby in 1895. The building included a six-lane bowling alley that was used to raise operating funds for the department. The station closed in 1977, when a new station on Montgomery Village Avenue was built. Today, the old fire station is the Gaithersburg Fire Museum.

Randy Sipley | 4/18/15 | I use to go up there as a kid in the 60's when I lived on Lee Street. My friend Butch and I would go to Diamond Drug Store and get a soda and candy, then go down and hang out with the firemen, they were always nice to us. Today, I'm a 35 year career firefighter getting ready to retire as a Captain with the Fort Hood Fire Dept. in Tx. |
Lynn Kinsey (Paynter) | 9/29/15 | that us to be my home away from home. My daddy Greg Kinsey was a life time volunteer firefighter. His father was also a firefighter when it opened up in 1930. There was an older gentleman (Munk) that would keep an I eye on us while my dad was on a call. The parades where the best the relays between the fire departments where great. |
