Built in 1926 on the grounds of the "Rolling Acres" dairy farm, Asbury Methodist Village was originally a "Methodist Home for the Aged". The community rapidly grew to a sophisticated yet caring place where seniors of all denominations could enjoy a productive and healthy retirement.

Nancy Zanner Correll | 7/29/09 | For years, as I walked to and from G'burg Elementary and G'burg Junior High, I passed a sign on the Home's property near the intersection with Lee St. that said "Rolling Acres." Maybe the sign is still there. When I was a Girl Scout, my troop often visited the residents in the Home. I remember its ice cream parlor, the doll collection, and the porches that overlooked the fields. My troop camped in those fields a couple of times. Nowadays, those fields are no longer wild and open but are built up with lots of new Home buildings and Lakeforest Mall. |
Robin Gardner | 11/5/10 | First piano recital here in 1969. We called it, "The old folks home.." |
Deaner Lawless Jr. | 2/23/11 | Remember the pond behind the "the old folks home"? Chased out of it many times . . . . you could see the dust cloud from the security truck. We would hide in the nearby bushes. He never saw us . . . so we think!! |
Fred | 4/7/11 | yes Robin, I used to serve meals volunteering there during thanksgiving & Christmas |
Darlene Cambell | 4/8/11 | I remember the new Asbury but it was called Asbury Methodist Nursing Home. |
Danny Brodt | 10/8/11 | Lived at 24 Walker Ave when we 1st came to G'burg in the 50's from Iowa. Used to hide behind the hedges and harass the cars on Halloween. |
Larry French | 2/9/13 | Like Danny Brodt and many others, I remember the Asbury grounds as excellent hiding places during frequent water-balloon exchanges on Halloween. One evening, when trying to leap a hedge, I found that barbed wire was running through it. I still carry the scar of that encounter. |
Sharon Roberts Lowrey | 10/20/13 | I grew up right on the corner of Russell and Walker Ave. In front of the "old folks home" as we called it. I remember visiting it many times. The doll collection was amazing. |
Tony Bart | 11/5/13 | When I was 6 or 7 I used to think that was Peyton Place. |
Robin Talbott Swope | 8/30/15 | used to take our wagon there and have a picnic. I only lived a block away |
Carmen Woodrum | 9/29/15 | I worked at Asbury for a short period of time as an evening manager of sorts. I had to walk that building every night and lock up. Loved that old building. |
Terry Litz | 3/8/18 | I remember the one on the right above. We had our recitals at 'Asbury Methodist Home/old folks home' in the 60s. That is Victor Litz Music and I was in many of those recitals! We're not old, we're great musicians now! |
Linda Layman | 4/30/20 | I started working in the evenings at Asbury in 1975 and they were having their 50th anniversary. I was in the first half of the Wilson Health Care Center, then the second half was added, then many other buildings. Loved it there. |
